The Government says major changes are coming to the Troubles Bill, but Parliament has yet to see them. With Dublin involved, questions remain over transparency, scrutiny and what has been agreed.
"With Dublin involved ..." Yes, and the rest of them. This Labour government and Sinn Fein.
The Bill must be scrapped, not least because it is being negotiated by a left-wing government in Westminster, a less than impartial government in Dublin (with its EU link), and a dominant Sinn Fein in Stormont. Secondly, because the likelihood that an agreement cooked up by such parties will get the OK from veterans – not to mention others – is preposterous. It would be a stitch-up. Even if passed, the Bill would remain as a running sore for years and would ultimately solve nothing.
In the Policy Exchange Report (The Special Air Service in Northern Ireland) one of the options put forward is to withdraw or reject the Bill, or repeal it if it is passed. In its conclusion, the report states, “The justification for the 2023 provisions – that it was desirable to draw a line under the past, reflecting the Belfast Agreement – remains compelling.”
The Bill is beyond redemption. It should be scrapped, not amended. Either way, how that is achieved is slow-sledging but all is not lost.
Well articulated Greg. The 'Vermin' that's supposedly running our country is so corrupt, it's difficult to tell what's coming next! They are trying to 'slay' us veterans every way they can. Not a spark of intelligence, integrity or humanity amongst them! Believe me brother, the 'Day of the Jackals' is near!

Roger that, Ben.
You are right. Empathy is a problem!
