Starmer's Steel Grab Exposes Labour's National Security Double Standard
While rushing to nationalize British Steel, Labour continues to prioritise human rights laws over protecting British soldiers
It is extraordinary how quickly politicians pull out the national security card when it suits them. If Starmer thinks he is protecting the national interest by nationalising British Steel from Chinese owners, then why not invoke Article 15 to protect the national interest by protecting soldiers against vexatious legal claims?
The selective application of 'national security' concerns is striking — apparently it matters for steel production, but when it comes to defending our military personnel and the fundamental basis of our defence and security, the government seems content to let Human Rights considerations take precedence.
It will be inetresting to hear what Lord Hemer says about this breach of ECHR. Or, will he remain in hiding?
