Starmer's Playing Soldier Without a Battle Plan
Labour's 'coalition of the willing' seems long on meetings, short on answers – and even shorter on protecting our troops
Sir Keir Starmer and John Healey, the defence secretary, host a summit today of European military chiefs to discuss the deployment of peacekeeping troops to Ukraine. The so-called “coalition of the willing” will consider the logistical challenges of deploying as many as 30,000 troops to Ukraine, or as Luke Pollard, the armed forces minister, put it on Times Radio this morning: “the nuts-and-bolts planning.”
Many questions remain. For example, what equipment will these troops have? Where will it come from? How long could troops be there? What powers will they be given?
More importantly, given this Government’s track record of hounding veterans, what will be the legal framework for rules of engagement?
Ultimately, will Starmer rein in his mate Lord Hermer, or will the preference remain for foreign judges over British law?
If the State that recruits soldiers to fight for them won't protect them from malicious attacks upon returning home, why join up in the first place.
No wonder there's a recruitment crisis.
Everything Government says is the complete opposite of the actual truth. 100%
